The Other Other Side

Re: bear blog echo chamber

EDIT: I found an archive of the original blog post in question. It was way more inoffensive than I had thought, and I jumped to some pretty uncharitable conclusions about it based off a secondhand account of what it said. I don't really think it was mgx's fault, it was just me being presumptive. You can read what I originally wrote here, but it isn't really a fair response to the OP.

With more context, it's clear that what the OP meant was that bearblog is an echo chamber with regards to its opinion on social media. They didn't even disagree that it sucks -- everybody knows that it sucks -- they were just tired of reading about it. It's a fair complaint, I suppose, but you've gotta understand that a lot of people are on bearblog because they're sick of social media, and they're just writing their thoughts, so a lot of their thoughts are gonna be about... how sick they are of social media. Give folks the space to get it out of their system, and just don't read those posts if they don't interest you.

Another thing is, scrolling the trending feed is the wrong way to use bearblog. Well, okay, there's no "wrong" way to use bearblog, but if you scroll the trending feed and don't find anything you like, you should probably do something different. I don't even scroll the trending feed that much, I mostly either read blogs I have bookmarked or scroll most recent to find blogs to bookmark.

The whole post was just kind of whining that people weren't posting what OP wanted them to post. Frankly, I'm glad that people aren't posting what I want them to post, and they're just posting what they want to post. Even if I don't care about every single thing on someone's blog, it's better that they don't feel pressured to write what I want them to write.
