New Glasses
A smaller update today, not quite as serious as my last few posts. Picked up some new glasses the other day and wow, what a game changer.
I had been noticing some issues with my vision lately that I hadn't noticed before. I wasn't able to make out text from far away, lights at night were blurry and has intense halos, things of that nature. I had a prescription from 10 years ago that I never wore, but I figured that those glasses were way out of date, and besides that they were buried in one of my many boxes of miscellanea. I think the last time I used those things was back when I was regularly attending Melee tournaments, so about 10 years ago.
So I made an appointment with my local optometrist and got my eyes checked. It was a nice little office, real cozy. I always like checking out the machines that professionals use, and there were some neat ones in there. They had the big swiveling goggle doohickey that every optometrist has, the one that makes you look like the guy from the System Shock boxart, but there was also this one machine that I didn't understand the purpose of that blew a puff of air in your eye. If any of y'all know what that's for, let me know in the guestbook.
Anyhow, I just picked up the glasses yesterday, and the walk home was night and day compared to the walk there. Everything was crystal clear! I spent the whole walk just looking at plants and grass, admiring the texture that I couldn't see in passing without glasses. Before, I would've had to stop and stick my face in 'em to see that much detail, it's crazy just how different it is.
I'm not crazy about everything about them, though. It's been an adjusting process, and I still get a headache when I wear them. My eyes just aren't used to focusing like this, I guess. Hopefully, that'll go away with time. There's also a lot of unwanted reflections. Sometimes, in the dark especially, the lights will bounce in some specific way and I get a reflection of my eyes in the glasses, which isn't fun, making me look at myself without my consent. The edges also tend to reflect, which can get distracting, especially if I'm playing video games. Had to take them off while playing SA2B last night, just got too much.
On the whole, though, it's been nice. The world looks so much more crisp, in a way that I never noticed it wasn't before. Anyhow, just a small little nothing update. I'm sure I'll be back to your regularly scheduled doomerposting in no time.
